We are seeking an experience SMART Technical Architect to join our growing Digital Buildings team. You will be responsible for supporting the Consultants with the fundamental SMART components and overall design for our Clients.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical foundation in Building Management Systems (BMS/BEMS) and IoT & Networking, a working knowledge of construction environments, and the ability to bridge the gap between design intent and operational performance.
Responsibilities:
* Develop technical specifications and smart building design briefs
* Oversee system integration, vendor performance and site deployments
* Support the commissioning and validation of smart building systems
* Conduct technical reviews, risk assessments and issue resolution
* Ensure compliance with CDM regulations and relevant industry standards in any design
* Deliver and or coordinate close-out documentation, including as-builts, O&M inputs and training packs
* Evaluate new technologies and maintain knowledge of evolving industry trends
* Understand cybersecurity and information security best practices
* System Integration: Designing and implementing integrated systems for HVAC, lighting, security, and access control, as well as third party products to ensure they operate cohesively.
* Data Strategy & Analytics: Utilizing IoT sensors and data analytics to monitor performance, predict maintenance needs, and optimize energy consumption.
* Technical Design: Developing digital representations of physical spaces with our in house Building Information Modelling (BIM) software resources who also use Autodesk Revit.
* Sustainability & Efficiency: Driving innovation to meet sustainability goals, such as energy reduction and, in some cases, net-zero targets.
* Future-Proofing: Designing flexible infrastructure that can adapt to future technological advancements.
* Maintain a strong health and safety culture in line with MiX’s IMS policies
* Identify opportunities for innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in smart buildings, BMS/BEMS, or related fields
* Technical understanding of building systems integration, controls, and protocols (BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, etc.)
* Familiarity with construction phases and commissioning processes
* Strong documentation and specification writing skills
* Experience of managing vendors and working in live project environments
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and collaborative tools (e.g., SharePoint, Teams)
* Experience with System Integration: Designing and implementing integrated systems for connection to HVAC, lighting, security, and access control etc. to ensure they operate cohesively.
* Experience with Data Strategy & Analytics: Utilizing IoT sensors and data analytics to monitor performance, predict maintenance needs, and optimize energy consumption.
* Experience with Sustainability & Efficiency: Driving innovation to meet sustainability goals, such as energy reduction and, in some cases, net-zero targets.
* Experience with Future-Proofing: Designing flexible infrastructure that can adapt to future technological advancements.
Desirable Experience:
* Exposure to open-source ontologies and smart building frameworks (e.g. Brick, Project Haystack, DBO)
* Experience of designing or working with or implementing a digital twin, analytics platforms, or middleware (e.g., Niagara, Tridium, FIN Framework)
* Understanding of sustainability goals, WELL/LEED standards and occupant experience metrics
* Experience in supporting smart campus or smart city initiatives
