Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available The role The Plant Assurance Engineer supports SSEN Transmission's Network Assurance Strategy by providing robust, independent technical assessment of new plant and equipment. Reporting to the TA Manager and liaising with the Plant Subject Matter Experts (Principal Engineers), this role is critical for ensuring that high voltage plant equipment is suitably designed, manufactured, and tested prior to energisation. You will Provide technical assurance of new high voltage plant and equipment, validating compliance with SSEN Transmission's technical standards and wider industry codes (BS EN/IEC, ENA guidelines, NG ESO Grid Code, etc.). Review manufacturer capability assessment as part of pre-qualification and tenderer evaluation alongside technical input into factory capability audits. Lead factory inspections and solo witnessing of critical tests, including type tests, routine tests, specific tests, and site test. Manage the project (internal) and proactive (external) technical assurance work plan, including supplier engagements, publication of approval reports and updating and dissemination of approved equipment registers. (Subject to required skills and experience), support the Plant Principal Engineers delegated Technical Authority roles & responsibilities including review and close out of deviation requests, project advice in relation to technical specifications, specification updates, and contribution to failure investigations. You have A relevant HND or Degree (or equivalent experience) paired with technical knowledge of equipment at transmission range voltage classifications and Plant and Substation design. Knowledge of industry codes and best practices, including BS EN/IEC, NG ESO Grid Code, and CDM requirements. Proven, independent expertise in testing assurance, demonstrated by your ability to assess Project Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and independently witness and assure all forms of plant testing (Type, Routine, Site). The ability to technically assess complex issues, critically evaluate solutions, and demonstrate strong reasoning skills supported by advanced use of spreadsheets and databases. A highly disciplined, self-motivated approach to work, underpinned by strong organisation and management skills, and the ability to build strong relationships and influence key stakeholders (consultants, experts) for technical alignment.
