Consultant Psychiatrist – Older People’s Mental Health Services
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust seeks a Consultant Psychiatrist to lead the community-based Older People’s Mental Health (OPMH) team based at the Western Hospital and Oakley Road, Southampton. The role is part of a multidisciplinary team that provides high–quality, integrated care for older people across the northeastern part of the New Forest, working closely with GPs and other healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities
* Accept and manage referrals from the listed General Practices and maintain clinical leadership within the OPMH team.
* Conduct initial assessments of complex cases and provide supervision for team members assessing other referrals.
* Lead multidisciplinary team meetings to oversee the clinical management of patients.
* Support nursing staff in care coordination, joint appointments, and triage during the nurse–led duty system.
* Provide clinical advice and be available for clinical support during working hours.
* Participate in service and business planning activities.
* Engage in annual job plan reviews, appraisals and contribute to local management discussions.
* Participate in the OPMH senior on‑call rota (approximately 1 in 13).
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration with licence to practice.
* Eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Register.
* Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in Old Age Psychiatry (or expected within 12 months of interview) or equivalent.
* Section 12 approval.
* Approved Clinician status.
