The New Theatre Oxford is the main commercial theatre in Oxford with a capacity of nearly 1,800 people. There has been a theatre on the corner of George Street for almost 170 years. The first theatre built in 1836 was known as the ‘Vic’, and later as the ‘Theatre Royale’. It has previously been home to the Oxford University Dramatic Society. The theatre was damaged by fire in 1892, enlarged in 1908, and the current building dates from 1933, opening in 1934. Our venue hosts touring productions including musicals, comedy, music events, and private conferences.
Nothing beats the energy and excitement of a great live show! If you’re looking forward to returning to the theatre this year, our team would like to hear from you. We’re seeking new members for our casual technical team to join us for our upcoming programme of high-profile musicals, theatre, comedy, and live music performances in our venue.
You’ll be involved in all aspects of the Technical team’s work, including working shows, get-ins and get-outs, and maintaining the theatre’s systems and equipment both backstage and front of house.
