Job Description:
As a key member of the Dreadnought Platform Mechanical Engineering team, you will lead the design of mechanical systems, sub-systems, and equipment for the next generation of Royal Navy submarines. Your responsibilities will include:
* Conducting functional design activities, calculations, and analysis.
* Producing design documentation, Verification & Validation evidence, and safety justifications.
* Collaborating closely with suppliers and stakeholders to ensure design completion.
* Reviewing supplier documentation and demonstrating compliance with technical requirements.
* Supporting build, test, and commissioning activities across a major submarine programme.
Core Duties:
* Specifying major equipment and supporting procurement, qualification, and acceptance activities.
* Providing specialist knowledge and expertise for installation, integration, and commissioning activities.
* Engaging with stakeholders across the cross-functional project team.
* Mentoring junior engineers within the team.
Essential Skills:
* Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant subject, or equivalent experience.
* Proven experience in designing mechanical systems and specifying complex, high-value mechanical equipment.
* Excellent communication skills with significant experience dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
* Knowledge of the complete engineering lifecycle, including requirements, system design, integration, and acceptance.
* Good awareness of product safety and SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment).
