Join to apply for the Specialist Occupational Therapist role at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. An opportunity has arisen for an occupational therapist within our acute stroke service who can demonstrate specialist skills in stroke care. The post is based in the Acute service of the Stroke pathway, which includes a neurology assessment unit, a hyperacute service, and an acute ward, with an integrated pathway to off-site rehabilitation and community stroke services.
The successful post holder will work closely with the clinical specialist occupational therapist and team members, evaluating and optimising the delivery of therapy in the acute setting. You will demonstrate clinical reasoning and knowledge of the hyper-acute and acute stages of stroke care and rehabilitation, with a strong focus on patient flow and discharge planning using a home-first principle.
You will receive support, supervision and opportunities for continuing professional development within an environment that facilitates collaborative team work.
Responsibilities
* Work closely with the clinical specialist occupational therapist and the multidisciplinary team to evaluate and optimise the delivery of therapy in the acute stroke setting.
* Apply clinical reasoning across hyper-acute and acute stages of stroke care and rehabilitation.
* Contribute to patient assessment, discharge planning, and home-first discharge principles.
* Support and participate in professional development, supervision, and collaborative team working.
Qualifications
* BSc/Diploma in Occupational Therapy and current HPC registration.
* Experience as a qualified Occupational Therapist.
* Specialist level experience in stroke or a relevant field, with the ability to manage a complex caseload.
* Experience and skills in teaching and developing staff and students.
* Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
* You must be able to demonstrate willingness to work weekend shifts as part of regular patterns.
* Full UK driving licence and access to a car for community visits are required.
