The Role
We look at the building as a whole and are involved in every stage, from initial client discussions right through to construction and even the building’s ongoing performance. We collaborate with colleagues, architects and other construction professionals, playing a critical role in every building’s design.
As a member of the Vertical Transportation group, your day-to-day tasks will vary, as we’ll expose you to all aspects of our work. You will produce detailed designs and drawings, use the latest computer modelling software, carry out traffic simulations, define Vertical Transportation strategies for new or existing building developments to allow efficient transport of occupiers, or research ground-breaking technologies. Communicating will span all of these, as you regularly liaise with project teams, meet clients or end users, and attend collaborative meetings.
What You’ll be Doing
1. You will be in a Client-facing role, attending project meetings and disseminating the brief within the project team. You will need to be of personable nature and a good communicator.
2. You will lead the development of initial strategic concepts for projects ensuring solutions are appropriate for the brief and regulatory standards.
3. Taking responsibility for technical delivery in your work either alone or as part of a team.
4. Engage with junior support staff in their day-to-day activities and offer advice and guidance to ensure that they develop their skills and we get the best out of our people.
5. You will be financially astute and work with the team leader to help monitor fee expenditure, resources and work delivered.
6. Looking at new ways of working and taking time out for innovation and research ensuring we keep abreast of our competitors.
7. Creating and maintaining a high reputation within the industry, and ensuring adherence to QM and risk control procedures is also an important part of the role.
About You
8. At least three years previous VT consultancy experience in some or all of the following: VT Design & Specification, Lift Traffic Studies, tender analysis and drawing reviews. (Site survey and commissioning experience would be an advantage but is not a requirement as training can be provided).
9. Technical knowledge of lifts, escalators and moving walks and relevant and applicable codes, regulations, design guides etc.
10. Understanding of VT Engineering and interdisciplinary design through all stages of the design process.
11. Assist on projects, managing your own resources and deadlines.
12. Appreciation of client needs, and able to communicate with architects and other design team members.
13. Autonomous approach with minimal need for supervision.
14. Excellent communication, analytical and organisational skills.
15. Ability to work in a team environment and/or independently.
16. A friendly, ambitious and confident individual with a flexible and resilient approach.
17. Ability to deal with difficult situations in a non-adversarial manner.
18. Good technical knowledge in primary engineering.
19. IT literate with a technical understanding of relevant IT packages (Elevate, Revit, etc.).
20. Excellent written and spoken English skills.
21. Excellent organisational and planning skills to effectively work to timescales and deadlines.
22. Commitment to effectively deliver to demanding timescales.
23. Demonstrate excellent communication skills.
24. Work under own initiative.
25. Provide a lead role in an integrated project design team with other construction professionals.
26. Acts in a professional, personable and competent manner.
