Your Newpany:We are recruiting an experienced carpenter/joiner to work at HMP Gartree, expected to be ongoing on a temporary basis for the next few months. This is a long-term temporary contract offering sociable, full-time hours and overtime. There is the possibility for a permanent role for the right candidate.
Your new role:As a Carpenter/Joiner, you'll be involved in a wide range of tasks crucial to our daily operations. Your responsibilities will typically include:
1. To carry out joinery work, examples of work include making stairs, doors, windows, signposts, formwork and other bespoke timber items.
2. Measure and quote for works
3. Order materials
4. Maintain stock of building maintenance materials
5. Fit outpany vehicles for other departments
6. To organise and plan your daily work with the supervisor, to record and submit all details of work carried out on relevant work orders
7. To drive a vehicle if necessary in connection with work. Carry out daily vehicle checks andplete associated paperwork
8. Responsible for joinery workshop – maintenance of machines, statutory inspections, housekeeping and cleanliness
9. To participate in the Service’s out-of-hours emergency standby rota when the need arises and if necessary due to contractual or staff circumstances
10. Toplete statutory records as required
11. To provide technical advice where required
12. To undertake out of hours callout duties as per rota requirements.
Details:Pay Frequency: WeeklyWorking Days: Monday to Friday (overtime cover at weekends available)Working Hours: 39 hours per weekWhat you'll need to succeedYou will need to be honest, hard-working, reliable, trustworthy and have great attention to detail, alongside being an excellent team player. All applicants who are interested in the position must pass Prison Clearance, which can take up to 8 weeks or more. You will need a passport or photo driving licence to apply for clearance. Once passed, this is valid for 5 years and can be transferred to any other prisons of a similar category.
Qualifications• City & Guilds, NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in joinery• Current full UK driving licence
