Interim Planning Policy Manager
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Interim Planning Policy Manager to lead our Planning Policy Team during a critical transition period. This is a senior-level role, equivalent to Assistant Director, and offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of planning policy in our district.

Duration: 6 Months Initially
Rate: Negotiable dependent on experience (Inside IR35)
Hybrid Working Arrangement – 2 days per week in Derbyshire
Key Responsibilities
1. Act as the sole lead officer for Planning Policy within the council
2. Review and progress the Local Plan, including Regulation 18 and 19 consultations in 2026, and manage submission by December 2026
3. Oversee the SPD masterplan for a major 1,500-home housing and employment site, from consultation (Jan/Feb 2026) to adoption (March 2026)
4. Represent the Planning Policy Team in all external engagements with Councillors, Committees, Residents, and Stakeholders
5. Manage consultancy contracts
6. Lead and support a team of up to 4 professional planners
Essential Requirements
7. MRTPI qualified
8. Minimum 7 years’ experience in Planning Policy, ideally with Local Plan leadership
9. Strong technical expertise in Local Plans and planning regulations
10. Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
11. Driving licence and ability to travel within the district
