JOINT MARITIME SECURITY CENTRE STAFF OFFICER (OF2) The Joint Maritime Security Centre (JMSC) is the UK government’s centre of excellence for maritime security. Its mission is to increase awareness and understanding of maritime security threats and enable cross-government coordination to deliver a whole-system response to mitigate them, both around the UK and abroad. At the top of the JMSC structure is the Command role executed by the Head JMSC. This position engages at the highest levels of Government and National security organisations to integrate maritime security capabilities, planning, and understanding and to co-ordinate response mechanisms. PURPOSES Primary Purpose. To provide the Head of JMSC with intimate and immediate staff and administrative support. Secondary Purpose. Assist JMSC Strategy pillar. ACCOUNTABILITY This post will be accountable to the Head of JMSC via the Assistant Director (Strategy) then the Deputy Director (Strategy). Oversight of RN-specific reporting and regulatory matters will be conducted by JMSC Deputy Director (Assessment), an FTRS RN OF5 position. AUTHORITY This post is established and managed under the authority of Head JMSC. TASKS The post holder is to carry out the following tasks: Provide private/outer office support to Head JMSC, including establishing and maintaining relationships with private/outer offices in key partner and stakeholder organisations. Prepare, in consultation with the JMSC SMT and individual teams (as necessary), briefings and papers for meetings, boards etc. attended by or chaired by Head JMSC Engage closely and routinely internally with all other JMSC areas, and externally as required to integrate JMSC requirements. Attend meetings, events, visits etc. (potentially including international visits) with Hd JMSC to provide staff support including taking notes of key meetings and preparing read outs/reports, minutes, action logs etc. Line manage the JMSC SMT Diary Manager (civil servant EO/D Grade) and ensure Hd JMSC’s time is effectively used to maximise both internal and external engagement and deliver of JMSC key outputs. Brief Hd JMSC ahead of key meetings, boards, visits etc. Plan off-site visits for Hd JMSC, liaising with partner agencies, JMSC departments and other stakeholders as necessary. This may include international travel, in conjunction with JMSC International team. In consultation with DD Strategy and Policy and the wider ELT, lead on internal/staff comms on behalf of Head JMSC. Subject to direction from Hd JMSC, provide support to other members of JMSC ELT as necessary. Subject to direction from Hd JMSC, undertake specific projects/work packages to support JMSC as a whole.
