Overview

Job Title: Senior Advisor - Automation Transformation

Location: Ansty, Coventry

Job Type: Permanent

Working hours: 36 hours per week (fully flexible working week and hybrid options available)

Salary: £55,000 - £70,000 per annum

Responsibilities

* Leading projects with manufacturing clients at their site(s).
* Running client discovery workshops to identify and explore relevant information.
* Scoping opportunities for the deployment of manufacturing best practice and technology application.
* Evaluating opportunities to define work packages with clear value propositions.
* Scoping and delivering programmes of work to deliver a step change in volume, quality or efficiency by introducing new equipment, processes and working methods into an existing production system.
* Scoping and delivering programmes of work to up-scale and industrialise prototype production.
* Running workshops to identify suitable technology opportunities to support strategic growth.
* Developing pilot programmes for technology projects, including planning for technology selection.
* Providing technical leadership of client-facing projects, including leadership of project teams comprising engineers from across the Industrial Transformation Group and MTC Technology Groups.
* Training, being approved and acting as a Technical Governor on nominated projects.
* Delivering work packages from the Automation Transformation project framework which prepare the business for automation/technology insertion, including the following standard products:
o automation discovery project framework
o feasibility project framework
o supplier engagement project framework
o maintaining and developing system integrator database supply chain
* Supporting Technology Groups in work packages to develop technology solutions.
* Performing technical and administrative roles to ensure effective delivery of MTC’s business.


Essential Skills / Qualifications / Experience

Communication: The Technology Manager, Automation Transformation, is critical in leading and guiding project stakeholders i.e. the customer, 3rd party specialist technology partners and MTC resources in defining and deploying technology associated with industrial projects. You will be articulate and demonstrate competent communication and presentation skills and be comfortable communicating and working at all levels in a business from operators to executive teams.

Innovation: The Technology Manager will contribute to and/or define the forward strategy for the development of products and portfolios of work as identified by your Group Functional Lead and others, including senior managers and managers from other key functions e.g. Business Development, Programmes, Product Development, Technology Management, Resource Management to understand and shape current and future capability requirements and product offerings. You will perform a key role in identifying opportunities for application of manufacturing best practice, processes, methodologies and technologies for the solution of industrial problems and be expected to demonstrate highly developed problem-solving skills and apply these to complex, multi-dimensional problems.

Knowledge: The Technology Manager will be involved in guiding MTC customers in the application of manufacturing best practice and technology and shall have a strong working knowledge of the following:

* automation and robotics technologies, solutions and typical applications
* business /manufacturing improvement techniques e.g. value stream mapping, process mapping, lean techniques
* manufacturing operational efficiency improvement methods e.g. flow and layout
* business process re-engineering for innovation
* leadership and change management
* coaching and mentoring for performance improvement
* supply chain assessments and strategy
* Microsoft office 365 product set

The above should be backed by experience in one or more key engineering disciplines, such as manufacturing systems, mechanical engineering, electrical and electronics, production, chemical, biochemical, civil, materials, metallurgy, ideally at degree level.


Person Specification

* a persuasive personality able to explain technical concepts to varying audiences
* well-developed problem-solving abilities and strong analytical skills
* manufacturing engineering experience, ideally gained in a production relevant environment or equipment provider
* knowledge of the specific technology landscape and providers within your industry
* have previously delivered work packages in one of the following areas: equipment specification, installation, commissioning, ramp-up, new product introduction, new technology introduction, capability acquisition, process development
* interest in working within the defence and security sector (optional). Relevant experience or a desire to transfer previous knowledge or skills from another sector
* minimum of 10 years’ experience within industry, including leadership and change management roles
* high level stakeholder management, both internally and externally
* willing and able to hold and maintain an appropriate level of security clearance
* commercially and financially astute
* independent and driven self-starter and completer-finisher
* performs well in a customer facing role
* able to absorb a wide range of developments in technology and see how these can add value to the industrial sector
* communicating technical information in a credible way, with a level of detail that is appropriate to the audience
* supporting governance of the MTC Project Management Process
* ability to think out of the box, identify and resolve issues using a strongly analytical approach and challenge the status quo
* excellent decision-making capability, able to manage multiple concurrent tasks and prioritize effectively
* computer literate
* experience in the manufacturing sector is essential as a manufacturing engineer, manufacturing manager/director, MD, management consultant
* experience of manufacturing technology implementation projects is desirable.
