Role Overview
As a Carbon Mentor, you'll play a pivotal role in supporting hundreds of businesses to accelerate their sustainability journey. You’ll be the first point of contact for businesses calling for free sustainability-related support, most often sponsored by their banks. As an active listener, you’ll identify their key sustainability challenges and recommend relevant free and chargeable solutions. Your objective is to drive impact by funneling a pipeline of businesses towards energy-saving programmes.
Key Responsibilities
Client Engagement & Management
* Serve as the first point of contact, offering advice and sustainability support over a 30-minute carbon mentor call.
* Understand client needs, present relevant service offerings, and answer sustainability-related questions during these calls.
* Recommend next steps, such as audits, carbon reports, or specific technology projects, and coordinate with relevant colleagues for proposals.
* Follow established processes and SLAs for partnership groups, including note-taking and action planning after each call (approx. 15 min per call).
* Maintain and foster long-term relationships with clients, connecting strategy and project opportunities to maximize impact.
Lead Generation & Management
* Identify and funnel new commercial opportunities with support from relevant business unit leads/experts in areas like Renewables, Demand Reduction, Electric Vehicles, Water Reductions, and Consultancy.
* Initiate outbound calls to prospective clients to explore opportunities.
* Follow up consistently post-mentor calls, checking in on client progress through the sales funnel.
* Manage partnerships by organizing events, webinars, training, and tracking KPIs to ensure success.
Candidate Profile: Experience, Skills & Qualifications
Required
* Minimum of Associate membership with the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA) or willingness to attain this qualification within 2 weeks.
* Carbon literate – understanding climate impacts and decarbonisation strategies, familiar with key terminology.
* Genuine desire to make an impact and support businesses in decarbonisation.
* People skills – comfortable with video calls and building professional relationships. Excellent listening skills.
* Strong time management and organizational skills for scheduling and KPI reporting.
Desirable
* Bachelor’s degree in a sustainability-related field or minimum 3 years of practical experience in a related role.
* Knowledge or interest in evolving corporate sustainability requirements, best practices, and technical solutions.
* Proficiency with CRM systems like HubSpot (training available).
