Data Engineer
Location - London (3-4 days a week in the office)
We are looking for a hands-on Data Engineer to design, build, and scale our data infrastructure in a fast-paced startup environment. You will play a key role in shaping how data is collected, processed, and used across the business, working closely with product, engineering, and analytics teams.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys building systems from the ground up, and wants real ownership and impact.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes
* Develop and optimize data models to support analytics, reporting, and machine learning use cases
* Work extensively with
Python
to process, transform, and validate data
* Build and maintain cloud-native data solutions on
Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
* Collaborate with DevOps and engineering teams to ensure reliable, secure, and well-monitored data infrastructure
* Implement best practices around data quality, testing, monitoring, and documentation
* Support real-time and batch data processing as the platform scales
* Contribute to architectural decisions in a growing startup environment
Required Experience & Skills
* Proven
startup experience
(early-stage or scale-up), with the ability to work autonomously and adapt quickly
* Strong proficiency in
Python
for data engineering and automation
* Solid experience with
GCP
(e.g. BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Composer, or similar)
* Good understanding of
DevOps principles
, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and containerization (e.g. Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes)
* Experience building and maintaining production data pipelines
* Strong SQL skills and experience working with large datasets
* A
STEM degree
(e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or similar)
Nice to Have
* Experience with streaming data and event-driven architectures
* Exposure to machine learning pipelines or feature stores
* Experience setting up data platforms from scratch
* Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools
* Previous experience supporting analytics or BI teams
