Job Purpose

The key purpose of this role is to deliver our Credit Assurance program, ensuring the organisation maintains adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies. This role will oversee credit assurance thematic reviews, testing, and risk assurance activities, identifying and mitigating risks across business functions. The Credit Assurance Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams to foster a culture of credit awareness, providing insights and guidance on credit risk appetite, controls and best practices. This role will deputise for the Senior Credit Assurance Manager, as required.

The role is based in Chatham or Wolverhampton, and will require occasional travel to third parties, and to other business sites for meetings or training.


Credit Assurance Plan

* Independently deliver and lead timely and robust Credit Assurance thematic reviews across the Group to assess the effectiveness of the Groups credit risk management practices, controls and programmes to confirm that the Group is operating within its policies and procedures and in line with applicable regulations. This includes the assessment of customer outcome across the full product lifecycle when necessary.
* Ensure that risk‑based testing plans are aligned with emerging risks, and regulatory requirements, adapting them as necessary to respond to new risks or regulatory changes.
* Managing the closure and standard of response to the actions agreed from Credit Assurance thematic reviews. Recording operational management responses and evidence, tracking progress and conducting proportionate follow up validation assessments.
* Responsible for the delivery of Credit Assurance thematic reviews in line with internal quality standards whilst adhering to the Risk Assurance Methodology. This includes overseeing the performance of other colleagues, where required, to meet these requirements.


Risk Assessment and Management

* Play an active part in credit risk assessments, in collaboration with the Risk Assurance Senior Leadership team, identifying, quantifying, and prioritising credit risks.
* Monitor regulatory developments and changes in the industry to adapt and update assurance frameworks and methodologies accordingly.


Stakeholder Engagement and Communication

* Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including Risk, Audit, Legal, and Operations, to support a strong credit risk culture across the organisation.
* Communicate key credit findings, risks, and issues to senior leadership, providing strategic recommendations for ongoing risk mitigation and improvement.
* Act as a credit assurance ambassador, ensuring that business units understand emerging credit risks and are engaged in continuous improvement efforts across all levels.


Team Leadership and Development

* Manage Credit Assurance Officers, providing mentorship, support, and direction to ensure high‑quality work and professional development.
* Contribute to the develop and delivery of training for Risk Assurance team members on monitoring and testing methodologies, credit updates, and credit related regulatory changes.
* Foster a collaborative and compliant culture, building strong relationships within the Risk Assurance team and across other departments.
* Act as an ambassador for the bank’s compliance and conduct risk culture and standards, always demonstrating the highest standards of behaviours and integrity. Champion the Groups Mission, Vision, and Values.
* Develop and maintain your own continued development plan to support your continued competency.
* Ensure that you fully understand and comply with the organisation’s Risk Management Policies as they relate to your area of responsibility and demonstrate in your day to day work that you put customers at the heart of everything you do.
* Ensure that you fully understand and comply with the organisation’s Data Governance Policies as they relate to your area of responsibility and demonstrate in your day to day work that you treat data as an important corporate asset which must be protected and managed.
* Maintain the company’s compliance standards and ensure timely completion of all mandatory on-line training modules and attestations.


Experience Requirements

* 8‑10 years (or comparable) previous assurance experience working in a Credit Assurance, Compliance Assurance and/or Internal Audit function within a regulated lending or banking environment is essential.
* 8‑10 years (or comparable) demonstrable experience of critically analysing information and bringing out clear implications is essential.
* 8‑10 years (or comparable) experience of the development of management information for multiple audiences is desirable.
* 8‑10 years (or comparable) previous exposure to and understanding of operational functions and projects such as product development, operational processes and other tactical business changes is desirable.
