A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Principal Stress Engineer to join a specialist Mechanical Analysis function to support the structural design and development of a next-generation complex weapon platform.
This role performs the duties of a senior structural analysis lead and reports into the Mechanical Analysis leadership team, working closely with multi-disciplinary engineering teams across multiple UK sites.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the structural design and development of advanced aerospace structures across the full product lifecycle
* Deliver and oversee structural and thermal analysis activities from early concept through detailed design, qualification, manufacture and in-service support
* Plan, estimate and manage multiple structural analysis work packages to time, cost and quality
* Apply classical hand calculations alongside advanced CAE techniques, including static, dynamic, fatigue, non-linear, impact and kinematic analysis
* Support qualification and design testing activities, including fault investigation and loads derivation
* Prepare and present clear, comprehensive technical reports to a range of stakeholders, including senior management
* Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions
* Mentor and technically support junior engineers, promoting best practice and professional development
* Actively contribute to the development and improvement of analysis methods, tools and processes
The ideal candidate would have:
* Strong experience in structural analysis within an aerospace, defence or similarly regulated engineering environment
* Proven capability in leading and delivering complex analysis activities using both hand calculations and CAE tools
* Experience with CAE modelling tools (HyperWorks desirable)
* Exposure to a broad range of structural disciplines including static, dynamic, fatigue and non-linear analysis
* Composite stress analysis experience (desirable)
* Confidence presenting technical findings and recommendations to varied audiences
* A proactive mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and technical excellence
The ideal candidate must have:
* A degree in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline, or significant equivalent industry experience
* Demonstrated experience planning, estimating and owning structural analysis work packages
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* The ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* A strong problem-solving approach with the confidence to take technical responsibility
* Willingness to obtain and hold UK security clearance (DV desirable)
