Specialist Stop Smoking Practitioner (Community)
The role of our Specialist Stop Smoking Advisor (Community) will be to provide 1-1 support to clients either face to face or over the phone and recommend appropriate medication and/or Nicotine Replacement Therapy to smokers who live or work in County Durham. Our Specialist Stop Smoking Service is based on good practice detailed in the National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training Programme, and you will be expected to attain this qualification for the role. You will support the delivery of evidence based, equitable, stop smoking services that help to reduce health inequalities throughout our County. This will include the delivery of services within areas of multiple deprivation and to smokers from our target demographics. It is essential that the postholder can work flexibly, independently and as part of a team and can work with others to achieve targets for our Stop Smoking Service.
Main duties of the job
In this role, you will support clients in making informed choices to quit smoking by delivering evidence-based interventions in line with the NCSCT Standard Treatment Programme. Youll work across a range of community and healthcare settings, collaborating with professionals to embed smoking cessation into routine care and reduce health inequalities. The role involves managing a client caseload, maintaining accurate and GDPR-compliant records, and providing flexible support tailored to diverse client needs, including those with mental health or substance use challenges. Youll also contribute to service development, ensure effective communication and administration, and attend training and stakeholder meetings as needed.

Duties andResponsibilities
This post will be under the line management of theService Lead supervised by the Head of the Smokefree Durham Service. The role will be varied, challenging, and rewarding as the services develop and change inresponse to the needs of our clients and our Public Health Commissioners.

Key Responsibilities
Motivate,empower and enable clients to make informed choices regarding their smokingaddiction, and support in their setting of realistic sustainable goals thatlead to their quitting smoking tobacco
Deliver evidence-based stop smoking interventions, these may include: one to one clinics,drop ins, group sessions, telephone,or on-line support, theseshould be in accordance with the NCSCT Standard Treatment Programme.
Work with other professionals and agencies to embed smokingcessation as part of routineclient care.
Maximise the impact of smoking cessation on health gains and reduce health inequalities.
Provide high quality, efficientand cost-effective servicesthroughout a diverserange of communityand health settings.
Providea flexible, adaptable stop smoking service that meets the needs of our clientsincluding those who have mental health conditions and/or problems with drugs oralcohol
Ensure all client and servicerecords are GDPR compliant, up to date, accurate and satisfies the ABL Health documentationpolicies.
Successfully manage andmaintain a caseload of clientsand use appropriate ICT systems to ensure continuity of care
Provide effective administration along our clientjourneys in regard to client contact, appointment bookings, confirmations orcancellations.
Identify opportunities to develop and improve servicesfor your clients.
Assist in the organisation of the services workload, ensuring effective communication with your colleagues
Attend stakeholder meetings as required.
Attend all relevant training, internal and external to support the role.
Skills and Competencies Required
Understand smoking addiction and theimpact it has on peoples health
Trained (or willing to train) as anNCSCT certified stop smoking practitioner
Positive and proactive outlook with the ability to motivate, engage and supportothers to achievethe highest standardsand outcomes.
Highly organised with the ability towork to deadlines and effectively manage a client caseload
To be flexible and adaptable inservice delivery; based on the needs of our clients and commissioners
