Clinical Trials Assistant

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Trials Assistant to work in our Research Department on a fixed‑term contract supporting the Oncology Research Teams at both the Royal Bournemouth and Poole Hospital sites. This cross‑site role will help deliver commercial and NIHR portfolio studies, providing high‑quality, patient‑centred clinical research. The role combines patient‑facing and administrative duties and requires good attention to detail.

Main duties include working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to implement studies and translate scientific discoveries into improved patient outcomes. You will be involved in all aspects of the research process from study start‑up, recruitment, delivery, data entry to study close‑out. Previous research experience is not necessary, as all training and development will be provided; clinical skills such as venepuncture and laboratory skills are advantageous.

* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to translate scientific discoveries into improved patient outcomes.
* Support study initiation, recruitment, data entry and close‑out processes.
* Provide guidance and support to patients and colleagues.
* Manage time and meet deadlines effectively.


Qualifications and attributes

* Interest in clinical research.
* Initiative.
* Excellent communication skills to provide guidance and support to patients and colleagues.
* Good time management skills with the ability to meet a deadline.


Person Specification


Education and Training

* Current good clinical research practice course (ICH‑GCP).
* Good level of general education as evidenced by exam results or qualifications.
* Specialist course or module in relevant specialist area.
* NVQ level 3 in Care or equivalent experience.


Experience

* Experience of working with the public or people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
* Experience working within clinical research.
* Participation in clinical audit and evaluation.


Technical skills

* Computer literacy within a range of applications (including basic keyboard skills, EPR, CAMIS etc. or willingness to be trained).
* Familiarity with medical terminology.
* Ability to work autonomously and manage own workload.
* Ability to seek and obtain informed consent (meets Trust consent competencies).
* Venepuncture.
* Competent in laboratory skills.


Knowledge

* Knowledge of clinical trials and other research methodology.


Interpersonal skills

* Ability to communicate factual information accurately.
* Effective written and oral communication skills.


Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.


Base Location

Across both UHD sites – Royal Bournemouth and Poole Hospitals.
