About the role We are seeking a committed and proactive High Needs Teaching Assistant to provide tailored support for a learner with complex needs in Key Stage 3. This pivotal role will enable the learner to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally, ensuring full participation in school life. Purpose of Role: Deliver personalised support for a learner with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), adapting curriculum and strategies to meet individual needs. Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, families, and external professionals to provide cohesive and consistent support. Promote inclusion and belonging, balancing one-to-one work with opportunities for integration into class and wider school activities. Implement effective strategies relevant to the learner’s Down’s Syndrome profile, adjusted to their individual needs. Implement trauma-informed approaches, demonstrating skill with use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). Maintain accurate records of progress, interventions, and multi-agency involvement, contributing to assessments and reviews. Support attendance, safety, and wellbeing; identify and escalate safeguarding concerns in line with KCSIE and school procedures. We are looking for someone who: Holds a Level 3 qualification in childcare/child development or equivalent. Has substantial experience supporting learners with SEND, particularly Down’s syndrome and complex needs. Has knowledge of the Early Years and Primary frameworks of learning. Demonstrates resilience, integrity, and resourcefulness with a solution-focused mindset. Communicates effectively with families, professionals, and colleagues, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all learners.
