The RSK Geosciences team is recruiting for a Graduate Geo-Environmental Engineer to join the team based in Crawley, UK. This is a full-time, permanent position, working in the office and on-site.
The Geosciences team provides consultancy and design services to a range of external clients, including engineers, house-builders, oil companies, and local authorities. Responsibilities
* Undertaking project investigations with both geotechnical and environmental content as directed by the Project Manager – seeing the Project through from commencement to completion.
* All project work must be carried out with due diligence, adhering to relevant Technical and Operational procedures, and completed within the given cost budgets and time scales agreed.
* Good communication is required to liaise directly with the Project Manager periodically, providing regular updates and flagging up any issues or necessary changes to the scope and budget.
* Expected to be self‑motivated, exhibit a proactive approach, and work well within a team environment.
* Become familiar with the preparation of project safety risk assessments, method statements, and HASPs.
* Gain the ability to interpret geological maps and access geological data via the BGS website and other published sources to inform conceptual models for geotechnical and/or contamination purposes.
* Become familiar with how to interpret historical maps and other sources of historical information and how this information is used to inform conceptual models.
* Gain an understanding of hydrogeological/hydrological maps and understand how these are used to inform complex conceptual models.
* Attend training and develop field skills in water and gas sampling and monitoring techniques.
* Have a good understanding of waste management and the regulatory framework.
* Attain a basic knowledge of the relevant guidelines and codes of practice for the investigation and assessment of contaminated land to at least the GQRA stage.
* Understand how the conceptual model designs the investigation and sampling strategy.
* Have a basic understanding and practical use of generic assessment criteria for human health, groundwater, and surface water for all media.
* Develop an understanding of different foundation options available for structures.
* Be aware of RSK Geosciences’ sustainability/ESG plans and targets, and contribute to achieving them.
* Travel to other offices and sites within the UK (as needed).
Qualifications and Experience
* Hold a 2:1 or 1st class honours degree in geology, geophysics, surveying, or geosciences.
* Clear communicator, outgoing, and a team player.
* Happy to be challenged by demanding site work, and the technical interpretation and reporting of site data.
* Looking to work for the UK's leading geoscience consultancy/contractor.
* Full UK Driving License required – willing to travel and stay away from home.
* Would typically have membership of the Geological Society of London or the Institution of Environmental Sciences (IES) or be exploring which professional body is right for them.
