Role and context
Kingston College is seeking a Student Community Officer to support Curriculum, Student Services and Security Teams in the positive engagement of students, particularly those considered ‘at risk’ or ‘hard to reach’. You’ll play a pivotal role in providing a positive ethos within the College community, encompassing enrichment and the wider holistic Student Services on offer. You’ll provide an engaging, welcoming onsite presence during the College Day, signposting enrichment and promoting positive attitudes, inclusivity and behaviour and provide an early intervention support strategy for identified students ‘at risk’.
Responsibilities
* Collaborate with enrichment teams, Student Services and curriculum colleagues based at the main Kingston Hall Road site.
* Promote positive attitudes, inclusivity and appropriate behaviour within the College community.
* Provide an onsite presence during the College Day and signpost enrichment opportunities.
* Develop and implement early intervention support for identified students at risk.
* Establish positive relationships with young people while maintaining appropriate personal boundaries.
* Apply knowledge of safeguarding procedures and contribute to safeguarding arrangements as required.
* Utilise IT and online data administration systems related to student records and produce accurate reports.
* Work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary Service and College team.
Qualifications and experience
* A Level 3 qualification or above in a relevant discipline (e.g., youth work, youth justice, social care).
* Experience of outreach/detached youth work or similar.
* Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding procedures.
* Experience of working with young people in a school or College setting, with understanding of issues affecting attendance and conduct as set out in Group Policy.
* Ability to establish positive relationships with young people while maintaining professional boundaries.
* Experience of behaviour management techniques, de-escalation, negotiation and restorative approaches.
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
* Experience of IT and data management related to student records and the ability to produce timely written reports.
Salary, terms and conditions
* The successful candidate will be eligible for any increase in salary following the annual cost of living review in the new academic year.
