As Design Manager, you will be responsible for managing the design process across the full project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards. You will collaborate with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams to deliver high-quality, well-coordinated projects, embedding health and safety and digital innovation throughout. Based at our Bristol office, this is a full-time, permanent role working 40 hours over 5 days per week.
Duties of the Role:
* Lead the management of the design process across projects.
* Coordinate the design team, including consultants and subcontractors.
* Manage the design programme, RFIs, change control, and document processes.
* Ensure designs comply with Building Regulations, planning conditions, CDM, and statutory requirements.
* Drive Safety in Design (SiD) and embed buildability and health & safety risk mitigation.
* Oversee BIM coordination, clash detection, and digital model audits.
* Support tendering, value engineering, and pre-construction activities.
* Maintain technical and commercial awareness in design decisions.
* Engage in client meetings and lead design communication.
* Participate in lessons learned and best practice forums.
* Mentor junior team members and support CPD development.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Proven experience in a design management role, ideally in a main contracting environment.
* Degree or equivalent in a construction-related discipline.
* Strong understanding of current regulations, including the Building Safety Act, CDM, and Building Regulations.
* Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and managing subcontractors.
* Skilled in BIM processes and platforms such as Viewpoint 4P.
* Proactive, organized, and confident communicator.
* Ability to manage multiple project types, deadlines, and complex scopes.
* Experience with the Department for Education framework is essential.
