Hull Culture and Leisure Ltd is seeking, initially for a two-year fixed term period, an outstanding and visionary Managing Director to lead the company into the next phase of development. This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact in a city known for its cultural vibrancy, maritime heritage, and commitment to community enrichment.
This is a two-year contract, with a possible extension for up to five years at which point the current contract with the Council comes to an end. The two years is to lead the transformation of the Company, through whole system change, and to develop new ways of working to take the offer from the services we deliver in our Museums & Galleries, Libraries, Leisure, Theatre and City Hall forward.

The Role
As Managing Director, you will be the driving force behind HCAL’s strategy, operations and partnerships. You’ll lead a passionate and skilled workforce, ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality, accessible, and inclusive services. You will work closely with the Board of Directors and key stakeholders to secure the organisation’s financial sustainability and future success.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide dynamic and effective leadership to the senior management team
2. Develop and deliver HCAL’s strategic vision, business plans, and performance targets
3. Foster strong relationships with Hull City Council, community groups, cultural partners, and commercial stakeholders
4. Ensure outstanding customer experiences across all service areas
5. Oversee financial performance, risk management, and organisational governance
About You
We are looking for a highly capable and commercially astute leader who can bring energy, resilience, and creativity to this wide-ranging role. You will have a strong track record of executive leadership, ideally within leisure, cultural, community or public service sectors.
