PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: Up to £55,000, depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

This role is advertised as part of our BBC Extend programme for disabled people. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The BBC East Midlands region covers the biggest and best stories from the counties of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire – including vast parts of the Peak District - Leicestershire and Rutland. We are a multi-platform news operation with an approach that prioritises digital first, and seeks to achieve maximum impact across online, TV and radio.
As a senior journalist, you'll sub stories to the highest standard, help our journalists develop their skills and make important decisions about coverage. You'll liaise with broadcast colleagues as well as national digital colleagues to ensure we work together to tell stories collaboratively in a region with a bustling and varied news patch, which seeks to serve local, national and international audiences.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
* Subbing and publishing text stories for the BBC News website to the highest standard
* Leading and guiding journalists and playing a key role in steering our news coverage
* Generating story ideas and ideas for follow-ups that will work for audio and TV, as well as for digital audiences
* To ensure accuracy and due impartiality with all content
* React to breaking news and also have the ability to sub and craft content creatively when stories allow
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
* Extensive experience working in daily news
* Significant editorial experience and sound editorial judgement
* Significant experience working efficiently and accurately to rolling deadlines and breaking news. The ability to deliver high quality copy that demonstrates the BBC's values of impartiality and fairness is compulsory
* You will have demonstrable experience of embracing technology, adopting up new skills and adapting to the changing demands of a digital working environment
* An understanding of digital news platforms and how to engage audiences.
