Band 5 Occupational Therapist - Tamarind

A exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to work within the Occupational Therapy Team at Tamarind Centre. The role offers unique and diverse opportunities for personal growth and professional development and sits within a clinical team covering both acute and Rehab wards. The post offers opportunities to get involved in innovative ways to develop the service as we move towards meeting patients needs for recovery and the team work hard to ensure co-production with service users is at the heart of what we do.

The post holder will work within the established Occupational Therapy Team supporting service users on admission and during their progression on the ward, delivering comprehensive occupational therapy assessments, formulation, and interventions, whilst using evidence-based practise to assist in developing individualised care plans, promoting independence and enhancing functional abilities whilst developing innovative ways to engage service users with complex needs. Additionally, there will be opportunities to assess service users prior to admission in external settings for you to provide input from an occupational therapy perspective to the clinical team.

As an occupational therapist, you will represent your profession and act as a role model in a manner that positively reflects the trauma informed care philosophy of the secure service and the wider values of the organization.


Main duties of the job

The service users we care for often have very complex mental health needs, and at times may display very challenging behaviour. Therefore, staff will be required to demonstrate a range of skills including effective communication, empathy, self-awareness, and critical self-reflection skills. The individual would need to have the ability to manage their own reactions and responses to challenging behaviours effectively. You will be able to promote the philosophy of Occupational Therapy and evaluate the outcomes of the service.

* To manage a defined caseload, using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions ina range of settings.
* To maintain clinical records.
* To develop post graduate skills and knowledge through participation in the preceptorship programme.
* To support a recovery focussed care pathway

Job responsibilities

Training and Qualifications

* Occupational Therapy Degree or due to complete soon
* HCPC registration or pending HCPC registration


Experience

* Application of the OT process
* Experience in a mental health setting


Knowledge and skills

* Demonstrate team working and positive attitude to supervision and learning
* OT theory and approaches

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
