Job Description
Job Title: EV Charging Engineer
Salary: £45K - £50K + Benefits
Location: Bristol, hybrid working
Why this role
Ready to step away from the tools without stepping away from the technology shaping the UK’s energy future? This is an opportunity for an experienced electrical professional to use their EV charging infrastructure knowledge in a more technical, coordination-focused role, supporting major commercial and public sector decarbonisation projects.
You’ll be part of a growing clean energy team delivering reliable, safe and future-ready EV charging solutions across Bristol, and beyond. Rather than carrying out day-to-day installation work yourself, you’ll oversee contractors, support fault-finding, guide technical decisions and help ensure every charge point operates to the highest standard.
What you’ll do
As an EV Charging Engineer, you’ll manage the installation, commissioning, maintenance and repair of AC and DC EV charge points across commercial and public sites. You’ll instruct electrical testing and fault diagnosis in line with BS 7671 and the IET Code of Practice for EV charging installations, while ensuring contractors work safely, accurately and compliantly.
From the home, site or the office, you’ll provide remote technical support, review service records, maintain documentation including EIC, EICR and MEIWC paperwork, and help write technical procedures for live projects and O&M manuals. You’ll also work closely with project managers, clients, manufacturers and internal teams to keep installations moving and operational issues resolved.
About the company
You’ll be joining a leading energy solutions provider working at the heart of the global transition to net zero. The business partners with public sector organisations, education, healthcare, utilities and commercial customers to deliver smart energy efficiency, distributed energy resources and infrastructure upgrades.
In Bristol, the team is supporting a landmark, long-term city-scale decarbonisation programme designed to unlock significant investment in cleaner, more resilient energy systems.
About you
You’ll bring strong electrical installation and maintenance experience, ideally gained in EV charging, renewables or wider energy systems such as Solar PV, BESS, heat pumps, CHP, BMS or gas boiler systems. You’ll hold recognised electrical qualifications, including NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, AM2, 18th Edition and inspection and testing certification, alongside EV-specific training such as City & Guilds 2919-01 or EAL Level 3.
You’ll be confident discussing technical detail with project teams and leadership, with good IT literacy, clear communication skills and the ability to manage priorities across remote, office and site-based work.
Rewards & growth
This is a strong move for a qualified engineer who wants to develop beyond hands-on delivery into technical operations, contractor management and clean energy infrastructure leadership. You’ll join a supportive, ambitious environment with competitive benefits and the chance to contribute to meaningful net zero projects.
