Product Development Associate

The Product Development Associate will support the R&D and Technical teams in the design, development, testing, and documentation of next generation wound dressing technologies. This role is ideal for a recent chemistry or materials science graduate who is passionate about polymers, hydrogels, and biomedical materials. The position provides hands‑on laboratory experience, product development exposure, and full integration into regulatory, quality, and business strategy activities within Gentell’s wound care innovation program.


Key Responsibilities

* Research & Laboratory Development
o Support formulation and characterization of hydrogels, adhesives, and polymeric films for wound dressings.
o Conduct physical, chemical, and mechanical testing (e.g., tensile, moisture vapour transmission, absorption).
o Prepare and maintain laboratory documentation, including risk assessments (COSHH) and SOP compliance.
o Analyse data using Excel and other analytical tools, preparing concise reports and presentations.
* Materials Selection & Evaluation
o Assist in screening new polymers, nonwovens, and coatings for biocompatibility, performance, and cost-effectiveness.
o Contribute to supplier evaluations, specification reviews, and comparative testing of materials.
o Support stability, ageing, and compatibility studies in line with ISO 10993 and ISO 13485.
* Documentation & DHF Support
o Assist in compiling Design History File (DHF) elements, including verification, validation, and risk documentation.
o Support preparation of technical files, biological evaluations, and test reports for MDR and FDA submissions.
o Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks, batch records, and design change logs.
* Cross‑Functional & Business Support
o Collaborate with QA/RA, Manufacturing, and Business teams to align product design with regulatory and commercial goals.
o Participate in product scale‑up, pilot manufacturing, and process validation trials.
o Contribute to sustainability and materials efficiency initiatives within the product portfolio.
o Support preparation of technical slide decks, whitepapers, and business development materials.


Qualifications & Experience


Education

* MChem, BSc or equivalent degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, or Polymer Science.
* (Preferred) Experience or research project related to hydrogels, polymer synthesis, or functional materials.


Technical Skills

* Familiarity with analytical instruments (IR, NMR, TGA, BET, tensile testers).
* Understanding laboratory best practices and chemical safety.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and data analysis.


Soft Skills

* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
* Analytical and methodical problem‑solving approach.
* Excellent written and verbal communication.
* Proactive, self‑motivated, and eager to learn within a fast‑paced R&D environment.

This role provides a structured training path towards becoming an R&D Scientist or Product Development Engineer within Gentell. Exposure includes:

* MDR, ISO 13485, and Design Control training
* Polymer and hydrogel formulation workshops
* Technical report writing and DHF documentation experience
* Cross‑functional exposure to QA, RA, and Business teams
