We are seeking a Principal Environmental Consultant to join our consultancy and lead Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) support during design. You will work on a portfolio, collaborating with engineers, project managers, regulators and clients to manage risks, resolve challenges and deliver improvements to our Environment Strategy. You and your team will provide technical leadership across assessment, compliance and practice, ensuring handover to delivery and further developing the consultancy, strengthening standards and performance.
Responsibilities include environmental consulting and leadership across stages; coordinating internal and external inputs; implementing carbon reduction, nature‑based and climate resilience solutions; embedding requirements through stakeholder engagement; and managing fees, budgets, programmes and resources to achieve commercial targets and support team development.
Degree qualified in an environmental or related discipline, with Chartered Environmentalist or equivalent accreditation and strong consultancy experience in highways, construction or infrastructure. In‑depth knowledge of EIA processes, assessment methods and planning legislation. Proven delivery of environmental assessments, consents and sustainability inputs on complex projects, supporting carbon, biodiversity and sustainability initiatives. Strong report writing, technical review and project management skills, with a collaborative, solution‑focused approach. Experience leading teams, communication, stakeholder engagement, organisation, flexibility to travel, and a UK driving licence.
