Are you passionate about helping children communicate, connect and thrive? A welcoming and well-resourced specialist school is seeking a caring and committed Teaching Assistant to support primary-aged pupils with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), many of whom are non-verbal.
About the Role
In this highly supportive, structured environment, you will:
* Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and emotional security
* Support pupils who are primarily non-verbal using communication approaches such as PECS, visuals, AAC, gestures and modelling
* Assist the class teacher in delivering a curriculum tailored to pupils’ individual needs
* Promote pupils’ independence, social interaction and communication skills
* Support both one-to-one and small-group learning
* Create a calm, nurturing space where pupils can explore, learn and communicate at their own pace
* Work closely with teachers, therapists and specialist staff
About You
We would love to hear from you if you:
* Have experience supporting children with SEN, particularly autism or SLCN (desirable but not essential)
* Are patient, resilient and nurturing in your approach
* Can build positive relationships with pupils who may communicate non-verbally
* Are comfortable using structured routines, visual supports and sensory-friendly approaches
* Work well as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team
* Are passionate about ensuring every child feels safe, valued and understood
