Finance SME – Workday ERP Systems

Rate - £500 inside IR35 + expenses.
We are seeking a Finance Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead the ongoing development and support of our ERP systems—primarily Workday Finance and Commercial modules and their integrations. This role will be responsible for managing the full system development lifecycle, including technical design, development, testing, and deployment of new Workday functionality and other ERP-related enhancements. The SME will provide technical leadership across all application development efforts, including release analysis, impact assessments, new module implementations, and continuous improvement of existing configurations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and participate in the end-to-end development and enhancement of Workday Financials and integrated ERP systems.
* Provide expert-level support across Workday Financials, including post-production support, issue resolution, and enhancement services.
* Serve as the primary technical advisor and subject matter expert for Workday configuration and best practices.
* Manage and prioritize support requests, enhancements, and implementation projects based on urgency, scope, and complexity.
* Collaborate closely with delivery teams on incidents, root cause analysis, and ongoing work requests.
* Guide and mentor team members by providing direction, support, and Workday expertise.
* Facilitate workshops and working sessions to gather requirements, map processes, and define scope for complex business needs.
* Lead advisory, planning, and implementation activities for additional Workday Financial modules.
* Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with clients, focusing on strategic support and value delivery.
* Maintain clear and effective communication with internal teams and client stakeholders, including senior-level customers.
* Take ownership of internal initiatives and contribute to practice growth by sharing knowledge and mentoring peers.
Required Skills & Experience:
* Strong understanding of core Workday Financials, including business processes, reporting, and security.
* Deep expertise in one or more Workday Financials functional areas such as Accounting, Banking & Settlements, Budgets, Expenses, Projects, and Cash Management.
* Proven experience in implementing and supporting Workday Financials in a production environment.
* Strong consulting and client engagement skills, with the ability to manage relationships and set expectations effectively.
* Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written—with a focus on stakeholder engagement.
* Ability to learn and adapt quickly through self-training and structured guidance.
* Problem-solving mindset with the ability to evaluate diverse perspectives and deliver practical solutions.
* Passion for knowledge sharing, mentoring, and contributing to team development.
