Consultant Gastroenterologist with special interest in Hepatology/IBD
Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is seeking passionate and forward‑thinking Consultant Gastroenterologists to support our expanding Gastroenterology Service. Job Overview

There are plans to introduce a Gastrointestinal Bleed rota, which will be shared across the Health Board, and to establish a formal out‑of‑hours networked Gastrointestinal Bleed Service. We are driving our ambition to become an outstanding, patient‑led Health Board where dedicated staff provide high‑quality care and compassionate care to our patients, continuing to undergo significant transformation with staff and patients at the heart.
Main Duties
* Provide a Gastroenterology Service with responsibility for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illness.
* Supervise inpatient beds in North Wales (base to be agreed).
* Take responsibility for the care of patients in their charge.
* Undertake professional supervision of Junior Medical staff.
* Participate in Medical Education.
* Participate in Clinical Audit.
* Cover for Consultant colleagues’ leave.
* Be responsible for patients admitted.
* Provide specialty in‑reach during the week.
* Validate outpatient referrals and Endoscopy requests.
* Undertake Outpatient Clinics.
* Participate in a formal GI Bleed Service once established, extending the specialty in‑reach service to weekend mornings to support the medical take.
* Provide backfill to certain Endoscopy lists.
* Develop subspecialty interests in addition to management of General Gastroenterology patients.

Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential)
* GMC Specialist Registration in Gastroenterology and General Medicine or within 6 months of obtaining CCT from date of interview
* Full MRCP
Qualifications (Desirable)
* Higher Post Graduate qualification
Clinical Experience (Essential)
* Evidence of training in an appropriate Gastroenterology Training Programme or equivalent
* Familiarity with NHS systems of care
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
* Experience in Endoscopy, independent at diagnostic and therapeutic OGD and colonoscopy (JAG certified)
Clinical Experience (Desirable)
* Subspecialty interest in Hepatology
* Subspecialty interest in IBD
Management and Administrative Experience (Essential)
* Ability to work effectively with colleagues in an MDT setting.
* Ability and willingness to work within the Health Board and NHS performance framework and targets.
