An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of the Quality Governance team.
To strengthen our focus on patient safety, we are looking to appoint a patient safety expert, working full-time to support clinical teams in achieving the priorities set out in the national patient safety strategy. The role involves providing dynamic, compassionate, and collaborative senior leadership, visibility, and expert support to patient safety initiatives within the organization. The post holder will support the development of a patient safety culture and safety systems, and work in networks to share good practices and learn from each other.

Job description
Job responsibilities
The post holder will be the lead patient safety expert in the organization, working full-time on patient safety. They will provide senior leadership, visibility, and support to patient safety initiatives, develop a safety culture, and work in networks to share good practices. They will embed systems thinking, human factors, and just culture principles into all patient safety processes, promoting Safety I and Safety II approaches. The role includes supporting patient safety partners and collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders.
The post holder will support an aligned safety improvement approach by working closely with various safety and governance leads within the trust, and build relationships with external organizations such as Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch, patient safety collaboratives, and professional regulators.
Person Specification
Essential experience includes implementing national guidelines, leading clinical governance and risk management, developing change management processes, and working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams. Desirable experience involves senior healthcare management and clinical operational roles in the NHS.
Skills required include interpreting complex data, developing and communicating visions, effective leadership, relationship-building, decision-making, negotiation, high-quality communication, analytical skills, and enthusiasm for patient safety. Knowledge areas include NHS policies, quality improvement science, systems thinking, and legal duties related to safeguarding.
Qualifications include current professional registration (e.g., RN, RMN) and a Master’s degree or equivalent experience at a senior level. Postgraduate management or quality improvement qualifications are desirable.
