An established provider of environmental and drainage services is seeking a Transport Planner to join their operations team. This role is responsible for the effective planning and coordination of vehicles, drivers, and resources to support day-to-day operations. You will play a key role in ensuring efficient service delivery, route optimisation, and compliance with transport regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
5. Plan and schedule daily vehicle routes for tanker, jet vac, and drainage teams
6. Allocate work to drivers and operatives to maximise efficiency and productivity
7. Monitor vehicle movements and respond to operational issues in real time
8. Liaise with customers, drivers, and internal teams to coordinate works and resolve queries
9. Ensure compliance with driver hours, tachograph regulations, and transport legislation
10. Optimise routes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and minimise downtime
11. Maintain accurate records using transport planning systems and job management software
12. Coordinate reactive and emergency works to ensure timely response
13. Support vehicle availability planning, including maintenance scheduling
14. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement within transport operations
The Successful Candidate:
15. Previous experience in transport planning, logistics, or scheduling
16. Strong understanding of driver hours and transport compliance
17. Good geographical knowledge of local and regional areas
18. Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
19. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
20. Strong communication skills and ability to liaise with drivers and clients
21. Confident using IT systems, planning software, and Microsoft Office
22. Proactive and adaptable approach
Desirable:
23. Experience within waste management, drainage, or utilities sectors
24. Knowledge of Operator Licence requirements and transport legislation
25. Experience planning HGV, tanker, or specialist vehicle fleets
