About the role
MTrec Technical is representing a leading engineering and manufacturing business based in Sunderland, looking to appoint an experienced Maintenance Engineer to their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment, providing hands‑on engineering support across all departments. The successful candidate will play a vital role in maximising equipment performance, supporting continuous improvement projects, and contributing to the overall reliability and efficiency of site operations.
Responsibilities
* Provide emergency breakdown support to production machinery and equipment
* Conduct regular planned maintenance as per the maintenance schedule
* Support the UK Engineering Manager with engineering projects, including design, specification, purchasing, and installation
* Carry out mechanical and electrical repairs across a wide range of production and support equipment
* Monitor equipment performance, identifying and resolving recurring issues
* Maintain accurate records for all maintenance activities
* Assist with external contractors and service engineers, ensuring adherence to safety standards
* Ensure all work aligns with company Health & Safety, ISO 14001, and other internal and external compliance standards
* Take part in initiatives to improve downtime, efficiency, and health and safety
* Maintain a clean, organised and hazard‑free work environment
Qualifications
* Ideally HNC qualified in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
* Recognised time‑served apprenticeship in Engineering Maintenance
* NVQ Level 3 in Maintenance Operations or equivalent
* Proven maintenance experience in a factory/manufacturing environment (essential)
* Post‑apprenticeship experience in a similar role (desirable)
* Knowledge of motors, drives, PLCs, gearboxes, transmissions
* Strong team player with proactive attitude
* Excellent initiative and problem‑solving skills
* Able to prioritise and adapt to changing schedules
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy
* Confident communicator across all levels and departments
