The Trauma and Orthopaedic Department at UHD are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the team as a Specialty Doctor in Knee surgery and trauma working with Professor Harvey, Mr Lynch, Mr Pavlou and Mr Willis‑Owen who specialise in Knee Surgery.
This is an exciting time to join as we are currently making great progress with a vision in creating a first class fully integrated Trauma and Orthopaedic Service within our Bournemouth and Poole Hospital sites as part of the new University Hospitals Dorset.
Main duties of the job
- Working alongside our existing specialty doctors and registrars to provide care to inpatients including new admissions
- Supervision and support of junior medical colleagues, Physicians Associates and Advanced Nurse Practitioners/Advanced Clinical Practitioners
- Attending multidisciplinary meetings
- Attending and contributing to educational sessions and Clinical Governance meetings
- Participating in the hospital appraisal process as part of ongoing professional development
- Weekend working will be expected in this role.
There is a planned move for this service where this role and base of work will relocate to the Bournemouth Hospital site. Upon relocation of the role/service, excess mileage allowance / reimbursement will not apply, and any travel between the postholder's home and work base will be classified as a commute. Any other changes unrelated to this, will be handled in line with Trust/National terms and conditions.
Person Specification
- Good skills in Communication, Interpersonal and Organisational
- Ability to prioritise workload and use initiative
- Ability to know own limitations and when to seek help
- Meet requirements of GMC's Good Medical Practice
- Full GMC Registration
- Good level of Computer literacy and IT research skills
Experience
- Can evidence successful completion of foundation competencies
- Completed training to MRCS
- Can evidence experience of working within Trauma & Orthopaedics
Interpersonal Skills
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary team
- Able to work positively and engage with all staff groups
- Evidence of team leadership
Qualifications and Training
- Eligibility or valid/relevant GMC registration
- Completion of foundation training
- Completion of MRCS
- Compliant with mandatory training
Other requirements
- Full GMC registration with licence to practice
- ALS
- Able to speak English as necessary for the role
