We are recruiting a fixed‑term role, up to 2 years, for a senior advisor with experience in energy sector regulation, including combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert technical support, advice and training to regulator staff and external stakeholders.
* Develop strategy and tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes in the energy sector.
* Commission and manage external research projects where required.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players.
* Respond to incidents as part of the incident response role, ensuring business continuity support during an incident.
Qualifications
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge of combustion plants, waste incineration or refineries.
* Experience of the work area for the role, gained either by working within and/or regulating relevant processes.
* Knowledge of control measures for emissions to air where relevant.
* Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
* Work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.

* Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage others to consider diversity issues in their work.

This vacancy closes end of October. Interviews are expected to be held in person in Birmingham, by the end of November. It would be anticipated that this role would require some travel.
