Teaching Assistant (ALN & Low-Ability Support) – Cardiff Secondary School
Start: January 2026 - Until July 2026 (with strong potential to extend into the next academic year)
Contract: Full time, Monday–Friday (08:15–15:15)
Pay: £90 daily rate (term time only)

A welcoming and highly supportive secondary school in Cardiff is looking for a committed Teaching Assistant to join their mainstream team from January 2026.
About the Role
You will be working closely with KS3 pupils, primarily young boys with behavioural needs, to help them engage positively with learning and achieve their full potential. This is a full-time role within mainstream classes, supporting ALN learners, pupils with low-level ability, and those needing additional emotional or behavioural guidance.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Providing 1:1 and small-group support for learners with ALN or low-level academic ability
* Encouraging positive behaviour, self-esteem and emotional regulation
* Assisting the class teacher with behaviour strategies and classroom routines
* Helping pupils remain engaged, focused, and on track with learning
* Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may require consistency and patience
* Supporting pupils during lessons, transitions, and enrichment activities
About You
We’d love to hear from you if you have experience in one or more of the following:
* Supporting children with learning difficulties or behavioural needs
* Youth work, mentoring, pastoral work or care settings
* Sports coaching or working with young people in active, structured environments
* Any role where you’ve provided guidance, encouragement, or support to children or young adults
You should also be:
* Calm, resilient and confident in managing behaviour
* Able to build rapport quickly with pupils
* Reliable, positive and enthusiastic about making a difference
* Comfortable working as part of a collaborative, caring school team
