Environmental Advisor
Near Henfield, West Sussex | £35,000 - £45,000 + Package
An established and highly respected civil engineering and infrastructure contractor is seeking an Environmental Advisor to join their head office team, supporting a portfolio of complex and high-profile projects across the South.
This is a key role within the business, offering the opportunity to take real ownership of environmental compliance, permitting, and sustainability initiatives across live construction projects. You will play a central part in ensuring projects are delivered in line with environmental best practice, while also influencing carbon reduction, biodiversity, and wider sustainability strategies.

Job Overview
* Ensure environmental compliance across a range of civil engineering and infrastructure projects
* Develop, implement, and review CEMPs, SWMPs, and environmental permit applications
* Coordinate environmental permitting including EA, MMO and discharge consents
* Oversee environmental monitoring programmes (air, water, noise, biodiversity)
* Analyse environmental data and produce audit-ready technical reports
* Liaise with regulators, clients, and specialist consultants (ecology, archaeology, etc.)
* Support environmental input into tenders, including sustainability and risk strategies
* Lead environmental incident investigations and implement corrective actions
* Deliver site-based training, toolbox talks, and environmental awareness sessions
* Support ISO 14001 compliance and internal/external audits
* Contribute to sustainability initiatives including carbon reduction, biodiversity net gain and circular economy practices
Requirements
* 3+ years' experience within environmental roles in construction, civil engineering or consultancy
* Strong understanding of UK environmental legislation and permitting processes
* Experience developing and implementing environmental management plans (CEMPs etc.)
* Knowledge of environmental monitoring and compliance auditing
* Confident communicator with strong stakeholder engagement skillsDegree in Environmental Science or related discipline
* IEMA membership (or working towards)
* Knowledge of ISO 14001 management systems
* Full UK driving licence
Desirable
o Experience with GIS or environmental data systems
o CSCS card or site-based experience
o Exposure to carbon reduction / biodiversity initiatives
