Cheltenham Town Football Club Academy are looking to recruit a highly motivated individual to become our next Academy Head of Coaching.
Working pattern and Work base
Full time (35 hours) with flexible working arrangements/hours. Required to work outside of normal office hours, at evenings and weekends, on bank holidays and public holidays, and across different bases.
Travel: Regular travel to fixtures, meetings and other events in connection with performance of the duties.
Overall purpose of the job
To establish a sustainable system and approach to coach development within the Academy in line with the club’s philosophy, culture and values. To develop coaches so that they improve and perform to the best of their potential and thereby maximise the potential of the players they work with.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
* Personal Development
o Undertake self‑development to keep knowledge of coaching and coach development up‑to‑date.
o Maintain hands‑on competence and provide occasional cover for absent coaches.
o Enrol coaches onto the Premier League EHOC programme & PG DiP.
o Train and develop coaches using a range of techniques.
o Ensure coaches understand and accept their development needs, provide complete Training Needs Analysis (TNA) and deliver 1:1 coaching.
o Observe coach performance and give feedback to aid development.
* Coach Competency Framework (CCF)
o Implement the CCF to monitor and evaluate coaches, developing DAPs and group coach development opportunities.
o Ensure every coach has a personalised Development Action Plan (DAP) tailored to their needs.
* Development Programmes / CPD events
o Design and deliver programmes of suitable development and CPD events based on the Academy Performance Plan (APP) and coaches’ DAPs.
o Ensure all coaches hold required qualifications and have a CPD plan to keep licencing up‑to‑date.
* Multidisciplinary Team (MDT)
o Ensure coaches work effectively as part of an MDT.
o Build relationships and utilise the expertise of the MDT.
* Player Development
o Lead player development processes with MDT support.
o Manage staff to maximise player development, lead squad meetings and manage player squad matrices.
* Coaching Curriculum, Playing and Coaching Philosophy
o Ensure the Academy’s Coaching Curriculum is delivered consistently in line with the Academy’s (and/or Club’s) playing and coaching philosophy.
o Monitor coaches’ session plans, game‑planning and feedback to players; upload outcomes onto FIP.
o Contribute to an autonomous learning environment encouraging responsibility, reflection and experimentation.
* Other duties as appropriate to achieve the objectives of the post and assist the Academy Manager.

o UEFA A Coaching Licence (E)
o FA Advanced Youth Award (E)
o Coach Education Qualification (D) – where applicable
o Safeguarding and Protecting Children (E)
o Emergency First Aid in Football (EFAIF) (E)
* Required Experience
o Minimum experience as Academy Head of Coaching, Lead Phase / Cell Lead, or Academy Full‑Time Coaching Position.
* Knowledge and/or Experience (minimum 3 of the following)
o Andragogy – the process of learning in coaches.
o Pedagogy – the process of learning in young people.
o Running and designing development programmes.
o Football – coached or played at a high level.
o Leading a team.
o Managing people.
o Sport psychology.
* Personal Qualities
o Work ethic, integrity, solutions‑oriented, enjoyment of work, responsibility.
* Other Requirements
o Full clean driving licence.
o DBS clearance.
* Safeguarding – demonstrate due regard for safeguarding and promote the welfare of children and young people; follow FA and club child protection procedures.
