As Head of Music and Performing Arts for United Learning, you will embody our ethos of bringing out the best in everyone. Leading subject‑specific improvement work, you and your small team will support departments to raise standards in music and performing arts and improve musicality, progress and attainment. You will also work with schools to deliver wider enrichment and performance opportunities, helping to ignite a passion for music and performance in our pupils and removing barriers to access.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead improvement work in schools across the Trust (primary, secondary, academies and independent schools) to raise standards in music and performing arts.
* Visit schools to provide direct guidance and feedback to teachers, subject leaders and school leaders.
* Design and deliver inspiring music enrichment across our schools, from local initiatives to prestigious national performances, building partnerships and expanding opportunities for every pupil.
* Increase the capacity of leaders and teachers to develop the quality of teaching and learning, helping departments to make sustainable improvements.
* Develop our approach to curriculum and assessment in collaboration with the central team.

Practicalities

The role is predominantly field‑based, with substantial travel across the country from Bognor Regis in the south to Carlisle in the north. Home‑working is also a core element, with autonomy in determining when and where school visits take place. There will also be times when you will need to travel to our main office locations in London or Peterborough. Flexible working opportunities are available throughout our schools and Central Office, including part‑time roles. The start date is flexible, given teaching notice periods.

About you

* Extensive experience teaching music across KS3 and KS4 with up‑to‑date knowledge of the curriculum, assessment, and a genuine enthusiasm for ongoing curriculum development.
* Proven experience working autonomously and delivering at pace to agreed timelines, identifying and implementing effective strategies to improve outcomes.
* Outstanding subject knowledge and the ability to communicate a passion for music and performance to others.
* Experience of delivering inspiring, large‑scale performances and enrichment opportunities, alongside coaching teachers and team members to enhance their practice.
* Understand and respect the importance of diverse cultures and faiths within the school, with a commitment to equal opportunities.
* Be aligned with United Learning’s values and embody our ethos of bringing out the best in everyone.

* Contributory pension scheme.
* Occupational sick pay, protecting you and your family.
* Competitive maternity, paternity and adoption benefits.
* Group life insurance scheme.
* Westfield Health cash plan and extensive range of employee benefits for eligible staff.
* Continuous professional development options tailored to your needs.
