Job Overview: A leading geophysical acquisition Company seeks a Project Manager to join their Airborne Team to help manage airborne geophysical surveys. Applicants invited with a geoscience background and the ability and ambition to run acquisition surveys successfully. The Company is open to applicants from junior geoscientists (training provided) to experienced Project Managers. Preference for someone living in or near Edinburgh, or committed to relocating to the Edinburgh area. There is some flexibility to work from home, some of the week.
The company is well-established in airborne geophysical surveying exploration, for many decades. They provide high resolution gravity gradient data. They have now extended their services to some of the low carbon sectors such as the Geothermal industry.
The main responsibilities of this role include: liaising with the clients and sales on initial survey design, overseeing data acquisition, performing initial processing and quality control procedures on geophysical data (data is downloaded daily), client updates and reporting throughout acquisition, and coordination of project delivery and demobilization. This role will involve working closely with the sales team, operations and the geoscience team.
You will operate from the Company’s Edinburgh office, but you will be expected to travel as required to visit clients and potential clients, and attend conferences and trade shows etc.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Executive Vice President, you will take responsibility to:
• Become competent in the Company’s services, work flows and practices.
• Build good working relationships with your peers.
• Collaborate as part of a team of Project Managers each responsible for an individual geophysical survey project from plan to delivery
• Coordinate with sales to generate geophysical survey plans including coordinate projections, line plans, terrain models, and feasibility studies from client data
• Coordinate with operations team to generate acquisition plan, assess project feasibility, and communicate all contract requirements
• Coordinate with geoscience team to ensure that the interpretation is executed and delivered as planned
• Schedule and direct internal and external project setup meetings across departments
• Become the single point of contact for internal and external communication during project setup and acquisition
• Take ownership of daily quality control of survey data during acquisition
• Take ownership of daily client reporting during acquisition
• Be responsible for handover from operations and acquisition to processing, interpretation, and delivery
• Be responsible for insuring that the final project is delivered on time and specs to the client. Be the main point of contact for the client throughout the project.
• Be responsible for proper storage and archiving of project data upon delivery
• Undertake occasional travel to conference and trade shows when required.
• Be proactive in keeping abreast of new technologies and trends in relation to gravity and magnetic solutions.
This is a varied role offering the opportunity to liaise with clients, operations and technical personnel and to travel as required for international conferences and to meet clients. Full training provided in all aspects of the role for an ambitious geoscientist.
Preferences: The successful candidate will have:
• Degree in a geoscience or related field essential.
• Some work experience essential – preferably a minimum of 2+ years but training provided.
• Local to Edinburgh area or willingness to relocate essential.
• Geophysics background highly desired – especially some exposure to data processing and interpretation.
• Geophysical or geological field experience desired.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills on technical subjects
• Able to multitask, prioritize, and problem solve while managing people and resources essential
• Competency in geophysical processing software desired. Experience in “Geosoft Oasis Montaj” strongly preferred.
• Competency using a GIS (Geographic Information Systems) platform and the ability to write command line scripts desired.
• Strong general computer skills including coordination and communication through project management software and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• Team player and self-motivated
• Enthusiasm and drive to stay abreast of new trends and technologies in your field.
• Strong advocate in the transfer of knowledge and experiences – proactive in sharing.
• Willingness to travel globally.
Package: A Base Salary of circa £35K - £40K is on offer dependent on skills and experience plus a range of additional Company benefits. There may be some flexibility on salary for a high calibre candidate.
