Overview
POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking an Entry-level Electrical SCADA/Studies Engineer in our Clarkston, WA office. The successful applicant will perform electrical studies and/or develop and troubleshoot supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems for utility and industrial/commercial clients. Applicable power systems include conventional and renewable generation facilities, substations, transmission systems, and distribution systems.
Responsibilities
* Protective Relaying: short circuit and symmetrical component analysis, time-current coordination, protection scheme and criteria development, relay settings calculation, integration with SCADA systems, NERC compliance, and arc flash analysis. Software: AcSELerator Quickset (SEL-5030), AcSELerator Architect, GE Enervista, ASPEN Oneliner, SKM-PTW, ETAP, RSCAD/RTDS
* Power System Planning Studies: steady-state real and reactive power flow, outage contingencies, generation interconnect feasibility, P-V and Q-V analysis, dynamic stability performance, and automation of large batch simulations. Software: PSS/E, PSLF, PowerWorld, Python scripting
* Design Studies: substation grounding, corona and electric/magnetic fields, insulation coordination, transient simulation, power quality analysis, motor starting, and AC interference. Software: CDEGS, ATP-EMTP, PSCAD
* Networking and Communications: design and configure network paths for RTUs, protective relays, meters, HMIs, PLCs; develop basic specifications for fiber, microwave, power line carrier, or radio paths; travel to project sites to troubleshoot and commission networks. Protocols: DNP, Modbus, SEL Communication Protocol, Goose Messaging, IEC 61850
* Logic and Control Systems: develop and implement logic for remote/local operation of power system equipment; travel to project sites to test and commission control schemes. Platforms: SEL RTAC, Orion, Cooper SMP, GE-D20
* Data Acquisition: prepare data transfer points, address data routing, develop HMI screens, travel to project sites to test/commission data transfer schemes. Software: Wonderware, Clearview, AcSELerator RTAC, Visual Basic, OSIPI, Python scripting
Requirements
* Must be a recent engineering graduate or enrolled in a university pursuing an engineering degree
* Strong troubleshooting skills
* Willingness to travel on occasion
Desired Education/Experience
* Within one year of graduation
* GPA above 3.0/4.0
* Power system courses such as three-phase power, load flow and reactive compensation, protective relaying, symmetrical components, transmission line theory, power system transients, dynamic stability, and power system electromagnetics
* Internships and experience in the listed technical areas and software
* Engineer In Training (EIT) certification with goal to pursue professional engineering registration (PE)

Base Salary Range: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year. Salary ranges comply with state/local regulations and reflect knowledge, skills, and education. This range does not include additional compensation such as bonus, health benefits, or 401(k) match.
