We have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Health & Safety Advisor to support the SHE team working on HS2
About the Project:
The HS2 Main Civils Contracts include both Lots S1 (Euston Tunnels & Approaches) and S2 (Northolt Tunnels). The role will be based in the West Delivery Unit supporting the delivery of earthworks and reinforced concrete packages including a cut and cover tunnel and multiple head house structures.
Security Vetting:
HS2 requires SCS to undertake security vetting on all staff to the UK Government Baseline Personal Security Standard.
All successful candidates will be subject to this vetting procedure as part of the on-boarding process.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
-Understand the Company Health & Safety and Environmental Policies and Processes and statutory requirements as they affect the company's operations and ensure that the requirements are implemented.
- Assist in providing advice on the practical implementation of the company's SHE policies and processes
- Assist SHE manager or delegate and Contract Management in understanding of stakeholders (internal and external) aims, priorities and risks with regards to SHE
- Assist with the development of Health, Safety and Environmental Management plans if applicable and coordination of review
- Assist in providing operational and functional management with advice on the prevention of accidents, incidents and ill health
- Provide advice and guidance for obtaining legal consents, licenses and exemptions such as discharge consents, abstraction licenses and waste management licenses as and when required and as directed.
- Task and assist the SHE Manager and other members of the SHE team, in key tasks to assist in the development, management, implementation and monitoring of the Safety, Health and Environmental Management System.
Costain Graduate Development Programme:
The programme will focus on helping you to grow your personal and leadership skills, alongside business and of course, the technical skills you will learn day-to-day on the job.
The programme is delivered in a variety of formats throughout the 2 years and will allow you to establish a network of contacts that will help and support you through your first 2 years and beyond. We expect some of our graduates to rotate after a period of 8-12 months, to another project/sector of the business to fully understand the depth and breadth of the services offered by the company.
Our line managers are fully supportive of the Graduate Development Programme and will be involved in helping you along the way.
In addition to the programme, we offer mentoring and support in every area of work, as well as a structured training programme to enable graduates to work towards achieving Chartership.
Graduates may have the opportunity to work on a number of exciting and progressive projects around the UK during the 2-year period, in sectors including nuclear, highways, rail, water, airports and tunnels.
About you:
- BSc in Health & Safety Management or Health, Safety and Environment Management or Environment Management Or equivalent
- Undergraduate study or equivalent diploma that gains IOSH Technical Safety Practitioner
- Status or Graduate IEMA
- Experience of delivering presentations, talking in public etc
- Excellent organisations, communication and time management skills
- Have passion for Costain's Carbon Net Zero targets
- A willingness to learn with appropriate instruction
- Excel at building and maintaining positive relationships
- The ability to thrive in pressured situations
- Mobility to work on various projects over the 2-year programme throughout the UK
