Overview
An NHSE funded training post as part of the CYP Psychological Trainings (formerly CYP-IAPT). The post involves time working as a Practitioner in Hillingdon CAMHS and time studying with King's College London undertaking a programme of training in CBT. The intensive training post will equip the post-holder to provide interventions for children, young people or families using the core principles of the CYP Psychological Training Programme and consistent with the evidence base in mood and anxiety disorders. The post-holder will work in the service for at least 2.5 days a week using the newly developed skills, with remaining days allocated to the training programme or self-study as required by the education provider. The post holder will hold an appropriate training caseload and complete assignments to meet course requirements.
Main duties
* Accept appropriate referrals with the assistance of the clinical supervisor.
* Assess clients for suitability for the treatment for which modality-specific training is provided.
* Make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhere to the department’s referral protocols, and refer unsuitable clients to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary.
* Formulate, implement and evaluate therapeutic intervention for clients in line with training modality and experience.
* Involve the system around the child in treatment as appropriate (e.g., parent/carer, school); convey therapy formulations in easily understood language.
* Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or clients in treatment, where appropriate.
* Complete data collection requirements within the service and keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols.
* Work closely with other team members to ensure appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements within a stepped care approach.

Job responsibilities
* Maintain standards of practice according to employer, and regulatory bodies (e.g., BPS, HCPC, BABCP, AFT); keep up to date with recommendations and guidelines from the Department of Health.
* Protect client confidentiality and comply with data management systems and training provider requirements.
* Stay informed about advances in care pathways and ensure professional development objectives are identified and reviewed with senior therapists.
* Attend clinical/managerial supervision regularly and participate in performance reviews; maintain up-to-date CPD records and personal development plans.
* Attend relevant conferences/workshops as identified by professional objectives.
Qualifications
* Essential: Postgraduate diploma-level academic capability; minimum second-class Bachelor’s Degree from a UK university or equivalent in a relevant subject (e.g., psychology, social work); or relevant professional experience considered on a case-by-case basis; core profession recognized by BABCP or level 6 qualification with eligibility for BABCP KSA route.
* Knowledge of safeguarding children and young people; a foundation knowledge of CBT is desirable.
Experience
* Substantial experience of working with children/families/young people in a mental health setting; safeguarding experience; multi-agency liaison; experience addressing diversity issues.
Skills and Abilities
* Effective and sensitive communication with children, young people and families.
* Ability to maintain a reflective stance in emotive interactions; use supervision to reflect on practice.
* Ability to organise time and diary, manage a high caseload; follow policy and propose changes; maintain accurate records.
* Understanding of evidence-based practice and its influence on clinical practice (desirable).
