Overview

Job title: Mechanical & Electrical Technician. Ref 40426. Division: Asset Operations & Capital Delivery. Location: Farnham - GU9 9ND. Contract type: Permanent. Working pattern: 38 hours, Monday–Friday 7:30 am–3:36 pm, plus standby rota payments and overtime opportunities (potentially increasing earnings by up to £8,000–£10,000 per annum after completing essential company training). Salary: up to £45,000 per annum depending on experience, plus standby rota payments and overtime opportunities that can raise earnings by up to a further £8,000–£10,000 per annum after training. Job grade: A. Closing date: 22/09/2025.

We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our Waste Operations team at Farnham STW.

As the successful candidate, you will work in a multi-disciplinary team and be responsible for carrying out scheduled, unscheduled and emergency maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimise plant breakdown. This role involves front-line activities including operation, testing, routine checks, maintenance and problem-solving to ensure that services are delivered to time, cost and quality standards. This will include planned and preventive maintenance of equipment to support plant operation.

What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical & Electrical Technician

* Ensuring the health, safety and well-being of yourself, colleagues, contractors and visitors by complying with Health and Safety at Work regulations and Thames Water’s guidelines.
* Undertaking reactive and planned maintenance, responding to alarms and fault finding to identify issues, fixing or escalating as required; installing new plant and equipment in line with current standards and regulations.
* Recording work and asset information to improve business performance, identifying potential future risks and recommending changes for resolution as required.
* Providing specialist technical advice with up-to-date knowledge, plus coaching, training and developing staff under supervision, including the apprenticeship programme.
* Delivering excellent customer experience and contributing to overall customer satisfaction; interacting with internal and external customers in a timely, professional, efficient, respectful and polite manner.

Base Location: Farnham STW – Monkton Lane, GU9 9ND.

Working Pattern: 38 hours, Monday–Friday 7:30–3:36. Standby rota payments and overtime opportunities may increase earning potential.

Equipment and resources: All PPE, tools, fuel card and provisional use of a company van.

Requirements: Time-served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical & electrical systems or NVQ or C&G Level 3 in mechanical & electrical engineering.

What you should bring to the role

* Time-served apprenticeship or NVQ/C&G Level 3 in mechanical & electrical engineering.
* Problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues and implement solutions or escalate as required.
* Strong communication skills, providing technical expertise to internal and external staff and contractors.
* Resilience and the ability to adapt to a changing environment.
* Ability to work with minimal supervision and under own initiative to meet standards.
* Knowledge of Health and Safety issues relevant to the industry.
* Team player with the ability to work across different teams, provide feedback and support development.
* Full UK driving licence.
