Organisation Information

Bouygues Travaux Publics (TP) and Laing O'Rourke, two of Europe's most dynamic engineering and construction specialists, are working together in a joint venture named BYLOR to deliver the main civil engineering works at Hinkley Point C (HPC) worth over £2.8 billion.

Bylor are responsible for the Design & Build (D&B) including fit out and handover of the HBX Operations Service Centre (OSC) within Hinkley Point C. The building is a mixed use warehouse/office/laboratory/restaurant and office building which connects to both Unit 1 & 2 Turbine Halls via sky bridges.

We are looking for a Senior Commercial Manager who has experience in overseeing the financial management of complex, high-value projects from tendering and preconstruction to delivery.

As a Senior Commercial Manager, you will develop procurement strategies, manage risks, negotiate contracts, and ensure commercial success. You will also play a key role in project leadership, with responsibilities in risk management, procurement, financial reporting, and supply chain management. Typically, they are experienced industry professionals, skilled in negotiation and team leadership, with a deep understanding of the construction sector. Senior Commercial Managers often hold Chartered status (RICS, ICES, CIOB) and mentor other commercial staff.

Role / Responsibilities

* Form an integral part of the multidisciplinary sub-teams responsible for project delivery and client service.
* Ensure staff have a good knowledge of and adhere to the Company's GMCEs, BMS and other governance, including Hinkley systems, processes, and required governance.
* Draft contractual correspondence to support Project Leadership.
* Prepare interim applications for payment and agreements.
* Manage, administer, and settle subcontractors' accounts, including accountability for those delegated to your team.
* Prepare and manage any claims.
* Manage staff effectively to provide a strong commercial service for the business.
* Support and guide junior staff inside and outside of your function regarding their responsibilities.
* Negotiate with client's representatives, sub-contractors, and other consultants to achieve project results while maintaining relationships.
* Input into contractual implications of planned courses of action.
* Advise and manage commercial risks within the project(s).
* Contribute to monthly contract review reports, communicating key risks, opportunities, and changes transparently and promptly.
* Support the preparation and issuance of weekly Business Plan Review (BPR) information.
* Identify changes and implement the change control process timely.
* Ensure proper execution of contract documents before project start.
* Implement appropriate risk management measures.
* Keep your manager fully informed of any issues or risks that could impact the business or project.

Requirements

* Experience in autonomously delivering a large project with a value of £100 million or more.
* Confidence working in demanding environments.
* Proficiency in Coins software.
* Membership of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS).
* BSc(Hons) MRICS qualification.
* Experience with NEC Option C contracts.

Essential

* BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or an equivalent experience.

Desirable

* Member or Fellow of RICS, ICES, or CIOB.
* Experience in strategic change management.
* Focus on achieving results.
* Strong business and customer awareness.
* Ability to promote organizational aims and objectives.
* Effective management of customer needs, opportunities, risks, and threats.

Additional Information

All Bylor positions are employed directly with Laing O'Rourke or Bouygues Travaux Public, offering competitive salaries, private medical insurance, pension schemes, and holiday allowances. Some roles may include a company car allowance. Positions are primarily based at Hinkley Point C, Somerset, known for its beautiful countryside and proximity to Bristol and Exeter.
