We are seeking a highly motivated individual to work alongside our technical lead and others to manage the waste exemptions regime. Waste Exemption (WEX) charges were implemented on 1 July 2025. WEX charges will lead to environmental, regulatory, and business benefits, but will also create additional workload in E&B. We need to place WEX on a sustainable regime footing and manage it like other chargeable regulatory regimes. You will: Manage the WEX income, business planning, and resourcing. You will also need to broker organisational priorities, measures, and track performance. Work with our Ruby Digital Team on the development and enhancements of our online registration service, national customer contact centre, and payment centre. Work with Defra, NRW, trade bodies, and our networks to ensure alignment between policy development and operational delivery capabilities. Support exemptions reform technical work at critical milestones and help build resilience in the WEX team. Ultimately, you will own all aspects of WEX with scope to support the wider team’s work and priorities. The team You’ll join our national Waste Treatment and Transfer team, which leads on biowaste, non-hazardous and hazardous waste, metals, fire prevention, and waste exemptions. Experience/skills Required In your capability-based answers, please demonstrate your: Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, actively encouraging consideration of diversity issues in their work. Knowledge of waste regulation from an operational perspective. Knowledge of the current regulatory system in place for the sector, including its strengths and weaknesses. Business management skills. Proven track record of delivering work-focused outcomes. Ability to work to deadlines and tight timescales. Experience of working collaboratively to achieve goals.
