Role Description The Director-level Structural Engineer will provide leadership for multiple projects, overseeing all stages of structural design and supervision from concept through completion. This full-time, on-site role in London includes managing project teams, reviewing and approving structural calculations, drawings, and specifications, and ensuring technical quality, safety, and compliance with current codes and standards. The role involves close collaboration with architects, contractors, and clients to develop creative, buildable, and cost-effective structural solutions for new build and refurbishment projects, including complex heritage and conservation work. The Director will be responsible for resource planning, fee proposals, and project financial performance, as well as mentoring and developing engineers and technicians within the team. The position also includes contributing to business development activities, maintaining client relationships, and representing the practice at design meetings and site inspections.
Qualifications
* Extensive experience in structural design and analysis across refurbishment, extensions, and new build projects (e.g., residential, commercial, educational, and historic/heritage structures).
* Strong proficiency with relevant structural engineering design codes, standards, and materials (e.g., steel, concrete, timber, masonry), and familiarity with UK building regulations.
* Proven track record in leading multidisciplinary project teams, coordinating with architects and contractors, and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
* Experience in site inspections, structural assessments, temporary works considerations, and providing practical buildability advice throughout construction.
* Demonstrated ability to prepare, review, and sign off structural reports, calculations, drawings, and technical documentation to a high professional standard.
* Significant background in managing client relationships, preparing fee proposals, and supporting or leading business development and bidding activities.
* Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to varied stakeholders.
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) with ICE or IStructE, or equivalent professional registration, and a relevant degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
