About the role
We are seeking an experienced Paper Conservator to join the Conservation & Heritage Science Section. You will be part of a team of 20 specialists, including trained conservators, technicians, and administrative staff, working to preserve, stabilize, and improve access to the Bodleian Libraries' collections. The role involves participating in research, training, external collaborations, and public engagement activities.
You will independently carry out conservation treatments on Special Collections, including bound volumes, scrolls, large items, and single sheets, following established procedures and schedules. Your work will primarily focus on the treatment of paper, parchment, papyrus, birch bark, and palm leaf, as well as stabilizing vulnerable media. Additionally, you will contribute your specialized skills to the preparation and installation of exhibitions and loans. The position requires responding to the current needs of the libraries and providing appropriate services. This is a permanent, full-time position working 37.5 hours per week.
About You
You should be passionate and knowledgeable about library collection conservation, with relevant qualifications and substantial experience in paper conservation and collection care. Good communication skills, a flexible approach to work, and excellent interpersonal skills are essential to engage with diverse audiences.
