Job Overview
We have a band 6 position within our team based at Frimley Park Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience working within acute stroke, acute neuro and general wards.
Responsibilities
* Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing evidence based speech and language therapy assessment, diagnosis and treatment for the acute SLT caseload.
* Develop knowledge and skills in specialist areas, undertake role competency frameworks and mentor & manage junior staff.
* Demonstrate dysphagia competencies, manage dysphagia caseload including acute stroke for at least 9 months independently.
* Complete NQP framework, manage patients with complex dysphagia/communication impairment with minimal support; ideally have placement educator training to take students on clinical placement.
* Engage in CPD, participate in team meetings and discussion groups, pursue competencies in videofluoroscopy, tracheostomy and leadership.
* Provide evidence based assessment, diagnosis, treatment for a designated group of patients.
Person Specification
Skills (Essential)
* Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification.
* HCPC registration.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Good interpersonal skills including observation, listening and empathy.
* Collaborative team approach to working.
* Good analytical and clinical problem solving skills.
* Standard keyboard and IT skills.
* Awareness of the standards of record keeping.
Experience (Essential)
* Significant relevant clinical experience and complex case management.
* Proven ability to develop and implement specialist programmes of care.
* Evidence of maintaining clinical competence and keeping up to date with clinical developments.
* Completed Level C Dysphagia Competencies (RCSLT).
Desirable Criteria
* Advance practitioner competencies (or working towards) e.g. videofluoroscopy.
* Experience in audit and research.
* Good working knowledge of software such as Excel and Powerpoint.
