Stakeholder project manager - construction

Manchester
Lord Search & Selection
Construction project manager
Posted: 25 July
Offer description

Long term contract role
Outside IR35
South Manchester based
Ideally have a Civils & Buildings background

The main purpose of the role is to prevent a situation from occurring where key stakeholders refuse to sign off a delivered final design, or even constructed asset, because it does not meet their expectations. The PM executes the design work to time, the DPM ensures that the design meets stakeholder requirements. The PMs and CMs focus on delivery, the DPM sets the standard for design phase deliverables and provides assurance on my behalf that they are being executed correctly. To that effect the high-level objectives of the role are:
• Design Approval Matrix: define who is consulted and signs-off each design deliverable in the programme, by RIBA stage - I expect to see and approve this matrix
• RIBA End-Stage Process: define the minimum standard of a RIBA end-stage review for execution by the project teams, including any mandatory documents, forms, invitees etc.
• Track Design Progress & Maturity: and report in the programme board
• Stakeholder & Communications Management: maintain this section of the PMP for review by the leadership
• Arup Supplier Relationship Management: by aggregating feedback from the project teams, assist the leadership in monitoring and feeding-back the performance of Arup in the design phase
• Technical Services Strategy: agree the required support from technical services, identifying which asset standards are critical to the programme and where they might not be sufficient. Ensure that the projects are appointing design guardians where required and that any new standards developed are appropriately reviewed and approved. Ensure RFIs are closed out in a timely fashion (by others).
• Regulatory Design Compliance: document which regulatory approvals are required during/linked to the design phase and ensure that those are treated as stakeholders with the appropriate management in all of the above documents.
• Design Delivery Assurance: ensure that the above processes are being followed on the projects, and that sufficient documented evidence exists.
In terms of breaking this down further into activities, the following would role up into the above:

• Motivating and encouraging internal and external design teams attendance at design workshops alongside PM s.
• Providing regular feedback to the Programme Manager on design activities and their progression. Bringing this to life so that it can be effectively shared with Stakeholders.
• Ensuring drawings and designs are produced on time, to a high quality and are easy to read.
• Overseeing the design process using technical expertise.
• Establish and maintain a programme that shows all key design activities and envisaged sign off dates working alongside the Planner to produce your own plan.
• Establishing a design sign off process for projects within the programme and to capture feedback and ensure the designs are actioned appropriately this will need to be linked to the RIBA stages of work.
• Working with the client to ensure that their expectations are met, this will include stakeholder mapping and setting up various collaborative sessions to ensure designs are delivered correctly first time and relevant feedback is captured and actioned through the design process.
• To be the key point of contact for the most up to date position of designs and maintain records to this effect.
• Reviewing designs with health and safety in mind working alongside the PM s, CM s and PD to ensure health and safety is front and centre.
• Reviewing designs alongside the project team to help avoid errors and reduce financial risk during the construction phase.
• Facilitating value-engineering workshops and looking how efficiencies can be made during the design process.
• Ensuring designs are available to those who need them, at the appropriate time putting in place appropriate controls to ensure only one version of a design is live at any time.
• Maintaining thorough documentation of the design process, inclusive of revisions and design sign off at various stages throughout the project life cycles.
• Keeping up-to-date with changing legislation and codes of practice relating to design, to ensure the designs are compliant with current standards.
• Office based role with site visits alongside the project teams to understand the design development of projects.
